Kasane – Chobe National Park

Distance approx. 85 km; driving time approx. 2 hours

Your guide will greet you at 12:30 h at the Café Coffee Buzz in Kasane and welcome you to Botswana. If you are arriving from Zimbabwe, then a safari vehicle can meet you at the border with Botswana at 11:00 h in the morning. In Kasane, you will receive a short briefing after which your safari in the Chobe National Park can begin with an exciting afternoon game drive. The park offers you beautiful landscapes and the Chobe riverbank is known for attracting a variety of wildlife. However, it is the tremendous elephant population which epitomises the Chobe National Park most. Herds in this region are so large that they can consist of up to 300 elephants, far greater than elsewhere in Africa. Whilst on your safari, also be on the lookout for lions, buffaloes, hippos, as well as puku and sable antelopes. In the event that you are already in Kasane this morning, you could go on a Chobe River Cruise (optional) before meeting up with the rest of your group at 12:30 h. You spend your first night camping.

Chobe National Park (Savuti Region)

Distance approx. 180 km; driving time approx. 4-6 hours

After a delicious breakfast and the breaking down of your camp, you start today’s journey which takes you into the Savuti Region. Along the way you will pass through the small town of Kachikau and the Chobe Forest Reserve before once again entering the Chobe National Park, this time through the Gcoha Gate. The Savuti Region is named after the Savuti Channel, which intermittently supplies the region with water. Currently, and for the first time in thirty years, the channel is flowing into the Savuti Marsh again. Before you head out on another game drive, you help in setting up your camp and enjoy a wonderful lunch in the bush. In the afternoon, you go out and discover your surroundings on a fantastic game drive. The Savuti presents you with a great opportunity to witness a diversity of wildlife. Be sure to keep an eye out for the lions of the region. During longer dry spells, they adopted the uncommon behaviour of hunting juvenile and sometimes even fully grown elephants. Although this has not reoccurred in quite some time, you could still be fortunate enough to encounter these famous lions on today’s game drive. Time permitting, you can also view some of the ancient rock paintings made by the San Bushmen, who originally inhabited these lands. In the evening, you return to your camp for a delightful dinner and ending an eventful day by sitting around the campfire under a starlit sky, all while listening to the sounds of the animal kingdom around you.

You start your day bright and early before making your way into one of the most impressive wildlife regions in Africa, the Moremi Game Reserve. You drive along the eastern border of the Okavango Delta and along the way you will cross lagoons, rivers, wetlands, and grass landscapes. After setting up your camp and another tasty lunch it will be time for your next adventure, a game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve. This diverse region is home to over 500 different species of birds and a prodigious amount of wildlife. Here you can witness elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and zebras in high numbers, as well as predators such as cheetahs, leopards, lions, and hyenas. If you are very fortunate, you may also encounter African wild dogs. After a fascinating day, you return to your camp for a delicious dinner and a good night’s rest.

Lunch will be a picnic, which can be enjoyed in your beautiful natural surroundings and in the afternoon, you will arrive in Maun. After setting up camp, you have the rest of the day to relax, before rounding off the day with good food and stories around the campfire.

Maun – Okavango Delta – Maun

Distance and driving time; depends on chosen activity

You can look forward to a different type of safari today, for today you will have the opportunity to see nature and the wildlife around you from a different perspective. On a boat safari in a traditional dugout canoe called ‘mokoro’, you silently glide along some of the hidden lagunes and countless waterways of the Okavango Delta. This tremendous inland delta stemming from the Okavango River serves as a vital source of water to an otherwise mostly dry country and is like a magnet for wildlife. ‘Mokoros’ are still used as a mode of transport between villages by the local communities to this very day. On your safari, you delve into this maze of waterways, guided by your local ‘poler’ who will be able to give you insights into life in the Okavango Delta’s and its unique landscape. In the afternoon, you return to your camp and you may spend the rest of the day as you choose. If you would like to get a bird’s eye view of the delta, you can fly over in a light aircraft or a helicopter (optional). Or perhaps exploring the Delta on horseback would be more to your liking (optional)? Whatever you choose, today has the makings of a very special day.

Maun – Makgadikgadi Salt Pans

Distance approx. 300 km; driving time approx. 4-6 hours

Have a relaxed breakfast in your camp, before setting out towards the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. Depending on the road conditions you should reach the pans in a four-to-six-hour drive. The Makgadikgadi Pans form part of one of the largest salt complexes in the world and as you draw closer to them, you will recognise their shimmering on the horizon. Depending on the season, you will either set out seeking the zebra migration along the Boteti River or you explore the Nxai Pan, made famous by the Film “Roar: Lions of the Kalahari”. At night, take your sleeping mat directly onto the salt pans and you will be lying beneath the most amazing blanket of stars you will have ever seen. It will be a night not too easily forgotten.
