Maun – Moremi Game Reserve

Distance approx. 100 km; driving time approx. 4-5 hours

You will be greeted at the Maun Airport around lunchtime and after a warm welcome, you climb aboard your light aircraft taking you to the Moremi Game Reserve. Marvel at terrific landscapes as you gain a bird’s-eye view of the Okavango Delta and of Chief’s Island below you. The Moremi Game Reserve is located to the east of the iconic Okavango Delta, one of the few inland deltas in the world. It is the flow of the Okavango River into the Kalahari Basin that forms the many lagoons, rivers, swamps, and islands which the delta is famous for. Framed by the Kalahari, its waters never reach the ocean. After landing on a secluded airstrip of the Moremi Game Reserve, you will be greeted by your guide and soon you can enjoy a picnic lunch. The drive to your camp might already give you some of your first safari impressions, so be prepared for possible wildlife sightings, until you reach your camp in time for a lovely sundowner. Enjoy your dinner under a star filled night sky before stepping into your mobile safari tent and climbing into your comfortable bed with the sounds of the African bush around you.

Today you further explore your beautiful surroundings and after a tasty breakfast, you set out on a game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve in an open view safari vehicle. The Moremi’s amazing ecosystem is home to elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, as well as a variety of antelope species. It is also one of the last refuges of several endangered species including the African wild dog, the cheetah and both the white and black rhino. Today’s safari can offer you spectacular wildlife sightings in the unspoilt wilderness of the Moremi Game Reserve. After an exciting day, you return to your camp and relax with a cold beverage in your pristine natural surroundings. By the evening, your safari kitchen will have prepared another delightful dinner for you before you climb into bed and rest up for your next adventure.

Moremi Game Reserve – Khwai Area

Distance approx. 100 km; driving time approx. 3-4 hours

Enjoy a timely breakfast before starting your journey to the Khwai Area within the Moremi Game Reserve. The region is named after the Khwai River which forms the border between the village of the same name and the Moremi Game Reserve. Along the way you can stop for a lovely outdoor picnic lunch. Over the next couple of days, you will have ample time to immerse yourself into this fantastic landscape of floodplains and wetlands. You have the opportunity to go on a safari of a different kind: a ‘mokoro’ tour. These traditional dug-out canoes are steered by a local poler who knows his way around the mysterious web of rivers and can potentially glide you close to many a wildlife sighting. It’s a classic Botswana experience and one of the best ways to experience its unique natural beauty. In the evenings, you can look forward to a delicious dinner freshly prepared by your camp staff.

Khwai Area – Chobe National Park (Savuti Region)

Distance approx. 120 km; driving time approx. 5 hours

After three days filled with safari adventure in the Khwai Area, your journey will take you further north today, into the Savuti Region of the Chobe National Park. Your next three nights will be spent in an area famed for its great game viewing possibilities. The mysterious Savuti Channel is once more feeding the region with water, but this could abruptly change at any given point. The recent increase of water in the region has been one of the driving factors behind the annual zebra migration. During the green season, thousands of zebras can be seen munching on the Savuti’s fresh green grasses. Over the following three days you will have plenty of time to explore the Savuti Region. You go on exciting safaris and follow the tracks of many of Botswana’s wild animals. The evenings at your camp can be spent relaxing with a gin and tonic, a cold beer or glass of wine whilst another fresh and delicious dinner is being prepared. After dinner, settle around the campfire and listen to the sounds of the animal kingdom.

Chobe National Park (Savuti Region) – Chobe National Park (Riverfront)

Distance approx. 70 km; driving time approx. 2-3 hours

Enjoy breakfast before you continue your journey north. Your destination is the majestic Chobe River, near which your camp will be set up. Once again, you can appreciate the advantages of a mobile camping safari: you are right in the middle of the wildlife action and yet, you need not give up on comforts such as a real bed and a private en suite bathroom with warm shower. The Chobe River is the lifeblood to the many different animals which can be found here. Keep your eyes out for hippos, lions, buffaloes as well as puku and sable antelopes. Despite boasting a variety of wildlife, the Chobe National Park is most associated with its tremendous elephant herds. A single herd of elephants in the Chobe can consist of up to 300 members, which is substantially higher than in other wildlife areas. In the afternoon on Day 9, you take to the water on boat cruise. Here you will not have any bumpy or dusty roads to negotiate and you can comfortably observe the various animals coming to the river’s edge to drink. When the sun throws its magical golden glow over the famous river, while you are surrounded by elephants and buffaloes and you effortlessly glid along the water, you will understand why the Chobe is such a special safari destination.
