A warm welcome awaits you at the Maun Airport upon your arrival around lunchtime. Soon thereafter you catch another flight, this one in a light aircraft taking you directly to the Moremi Game Reserve. On a cloudless day, you will be presented with fantastic views of the beautiful landscapes of the Okavango Delta and of Chief’s Island beneath you. Your destination is the Moremi Game Reserve which makes up a large portion of the Okavango Delta. The landscape here is dominated by wetlands, floodplains, grasslands, and wooded forests. Once safely landed, you will be met by your safari guide and you can enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch. Thereafter you go on your first game drive, as you make your way towards your mobile safari camp. Located in the heart of the wildlife action, your camp will serve as the ideal base for your upcoming safari activities. It also offers a level of comfort, not usually experienced on a camping safari. A comfortable bed awaits you in your walk-in mobile safari tent, with private en-suite bathroom and your very own hot water bucket shower. Make yourself at home, have a sundowner and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the camp kitchen. In the evening, you can sit around the campfire and soak in the natural ambience around you.

Moremi Game Reserve

Distance and driving time; depends on the route chosen on game drive

You rise early on a Okavango Delta mobile safari as it is during the early morning hours that the animals are most active. Accompanied by your skilled safari guide and in an open view safari vehicle you explore the Moremi Game Reserve. The Moremi Game Reserve is rich in wildlife and provides a vital sanctuary to many threatened species. On your game drive you may very well encounter elephant, hippo, buffalo, crocodile, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a host of uncommon antelope species such as the roan, sable, tsessebe, red lechwe and perhaps even the rare sitatunga. Where there is this much wildlife, predators are usually not far, and the Moremi is known to regularly provide quality sightings of lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and even African wild dogs. With the reintroduction of the rhino, the reserve now even boasts every member of the Big Five. After hopefully plenty of wildlife sightings on your morning game drive, you return to your camp for some downtime and perhaps a little nap before lunch. In the afternoon, you head out for another game drive and more safari action. Another delicious dinner awaits you in the evening and a good night’s rest in your comfortable bed.

Moremi Game Reserve – Khwai Area

Distance approx. 100 km; driving time approx. 3-4 hours

After an early breakfast you travel to your next safari destination, the Khwai Area within the Moremi Game Reserve. With possible wildlife sightings on your way, it is worth it to always be on the lookout. Your guide has well trained eyes and perhaps can teach you some tricks to help you spot animals. You spend the following three nights in this fantastic area of floodplains, wetlands, and grasslands, inside the Moremi Game Reserve and named after the Khwai River. During your stay here, you can explore the region in a very unique way, namely in a traditional dugout canoe called “mokoro”, with a local ‘poler’ expertly gliding you through the maze of waterways. This silent form of transport is not only idyllic, but also perfect for anyone wishing to drift right up close to some of the many amazing bird species home to this region.  On numerous game drives over the course of your stay, you can learn more about the fascinating ecosystem found in the Khwai region and in the evenings, you can enjoy enchanting night skies and relax in your beautiful surroundings.
