Dumela / Hello! Welcome to Botswana! Mack Air will be there to give you a warm Botswana welcome when you land at Maun Airport around 1pm. You will meet your pilot for your stunning light aircraft scenic flight over the Okavango Delta and Chief’s Island. This flight gives you a fish eagle’s eye view of this amazing ecosystem. When you land at your bush airstrip within the Moremi Game Reserve, your guide will be waiting to take you to your mobile camp with a game drive en route. In your 4×4 safari vehicle you and your fellow travellers make your way to your campsite. The drive doubles as your first game drive and you can look forward to your first wildlife sightings. Your friendly camp crew will be awaiting you at the campsite offering cool drinks and a tour of the camp. Distance: Game drives

Moremi Game Reserve, Xakanaxa/3rd Bridge Area

Distance: Game drives

Safari days start early because animals are most active during the cooler morning hours and your chances to witness exciting wildlife sightings are good. You spend the day on game drives in the Xakanaxa / Third Bridge area of the Moremi Game Reserve. Together with your fellow travellers and your guide, you explore the 5,000 square kilometre protected area. Moremi is one of the best places to go on safari in Botswana and even all of Africa. The Xakanaxa Region in the heart of Moremi Game Reserve is characterised by Mopane woodlands, lagunes and shallow water ways – ideal places to see elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and many different types of antelopes. Lions, leopards, and chetahs are at home in Moremi as well. At night, you can relax by the campfire, see the stars twinkle in the sky and later fall asleep to the sounds of the nightly bush concert.

Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Area

Distance approx. 100 km; driving time approx. 3-4 hours

Today, you head East to the Khwai Region; while you change your camp and will be staying in a different area, you are still within the borders of the Moremi Game Reserve. Depending on the condition of the roads, the drive will take between 3 to 4 hours. The Khwai Region is on the far north-eastern end of the Okavango Delta and is characterised by open grasslands, forests, and especially lagunes, waterways and meadows. The Khwai River separates the Moremi Game Reserve from the bordering Khwai Community Area. Your lunch is a picnic box eaten on route so you can spend even more time on game drives. Khwai is home to lions and hyenas, but you may be lucky and even spot the elusive leopards or the rare African wild hunting dogs. Even sable and roan antelopes call this area home. You spend another night in your comfortable walk-in tent, while the camping crew makes sure you don’t lack for anything. Your campsite is located in a secluded and private spot within the Moremi Game Reserve.

Day 4 | Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Area

Distance: Game Drives

Moremi Game Reserve, Khwai Area

Distance: Game Drives

Enjoy your breakfast under the open sky before you embark on another game drive. Your experienced guide knows the area very well; he not only knows in which places the animals are most likely to be spotted, but will also share interesting facts and anecdotes about their social behaviour. Together, you explore the meadows of the Khwai River. This region is more remote than the Khwai Community Area on the other side of the river. This way, you will have an even more exclusive safari experience. No day on safari is the same and you will be surprised how much you will have seen and experienced by now. In the afternoon, a special highlight awaits you: You explore the meandering waterways of the Khwai Region in a mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe. Your local poler navigates your canoe through the maze of reed and water. Silently your mokoro glides across the shallow water and you can observe hippos, crocodiles, and many different water-bird species. A classic Botswana experience and likely a highlight of your trip. In the evening, another delicious dinner and a crackling campfire await you.

Moremi Game Reserve – Chobe National Park, Savuti Region

Distance approx. 170 km; driving time approx. 5-6 hours

Today takes you from the far end of the Okavango Delta to the remote Savuti Region in the south-western part of the Chobe National Park. The contrast of scenery is striking: After the gentle meadows of the Khwai Region, you now explore dry, almost desert-like savannah. The Savuti Region is best-known for its high density of predators. Large prides of lions and hyena clans are preying on antelopes and other prey. Enjoy another day and night in Botswana’s national parks.

Chobe National Park, Savuti Region

Distance: Game Drives

You can look forward to more extensive game drives in one of the best regions for wildlife sightings in Botswana. Savuti is an area that can change dramatically depending on whether the Savuti Channel is flowing or is dried up. Until a few years ago, this channel was dried up completely. For more than three decades, no water ran in the Savuti Channel. In 2010, its water reached the marsh for the first time since the long dry period. The presence or absence of water can greatly transform the dynamics of the area – there is no way to predict when and if it flows. You have enough time to enjoy the big and small moments on your game drive and can experience the natural world extensively and together with your professional guide. You end the day by the campfire and under a blanket of stars twinkling in the sky.

Chobe National Park, River Front

Distance: approx. 150 km; driving time approx. 4-5 hours

Your next campsite is in the north-eastern part of the vast Chobe National Park, known for being rich in wildlife. After breakfast, your camp crew as always will pack up the camp while you go on your first game drive of the day together with your guide. This game drive will also take you towards your new campsite. Today you will drive partly through the Chobe Forest Reserve until you reach the Chobe River Front. Chobe is known for its very high number of elephants, crisscrossing the park in large herds. On the banks of the Chobe River, you may see not only elephants, but also buffaloes, hippos and big cats. You spend another night in your cosy walk-in tent.

You can enjoy your last full day on safari to the fullest. Together with your guide and your fellow travellers, you explore the surroundings of the Chobe River. It is the most important water source of the park, attracting many different species of animals. In the afternoon, another highlight awaits: On a boat cruise on the Chobe River, you change your perspective and view the wildlife from the water. Elephants come to the river regularly, quenching their thirst and splashing about – a special experience. In the evening, your camp crew will treat you to one last bush dinner. Enjoy a drink by the fire and let your gaze wander across the starry night sky.
